The Declaration Of Promoting Dignity

Written by Austin Fitzgerald

Have you ever wondered what the first 48 hours feel like for a child entering foster care?

Everything familiar is suddenly gone, home, friends, clothes, even their toothbrush. It’s a moment filled with uncertainty… and that’s where we get to step in.

At Care Package Inbound, we believe every backpack has a story. Each one carries more than just supplies; it carries hope, dignity, and the reminder that someone cares.

On September 27th, our CPI family gathered at Brew Haha Coffeehouse and filled 210 backpacks with hygiene items, clothing, and essentials, but more than that, we filled them with love and purpose. Each backpack was carefully assembled so that every child opening one would feel seen, valued, and supported.

“The next person who opens these backpacks is the child it will go to,” said Jessica Silvey. “We want them to feel the love and support that goes into these bags.”

Every detail mattered, from color-coded tags identifying age and gender, to QR codes that let social workers instantly know what’s inside each bag. The packing was done in 15-bag shifts to ensure accuracy and care, one story at a time.

And the impact didn’t stop there.

Just a few days later, on October 1st, the Lenexa Rotary Club joined the mission, hosting another packing event alongside the Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact/NHS clubs and Lenexa Methodist Church. Funded through the Rotary’s Shrimpfest and local events, this partnership made it possible to fill another 210 backpacks.

In total, 420 backpacks; representing $30,000 worth of love, supplies, and hope, were assembled for youth in foster care. Each one tells a story of compassion, community, and faith coming together to remind kids they are not forgotten and never alone.

Thanks to you, our donors, volunteers, and community partners, 420 kids will walk into those first 48 hours with dignity and stability. Whether you gave time, resources, or prayer, you helped write another chapter in a child’s story.

Every $75 backpack helps replace fear with comfort and chaos with peace. Whether it’s $5 or $50, every gift matters. Because behind every backpack is a child’s story and you’re helping make it a better one.

Thank you for continuing to stand with us. Your compassion truly changes lives.
